Discovery of novel bioactive natural products from marine macro- and micro-organisms. Elucidation of the genetic and biochemical processes involved in the production of natural products in marine microorganisms. Metabolic engineering of marine microorganisms. My current research is focused on identifying and characterizing coral-associated bacteria responsible for terpene biosynthesis in the corals Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae and Erythropodium caribaeorum.
